fabric
7. Inject sumptuous style into your bedroom
with a bedhead cover, featuring side gussets
and ties. Cut fabric panel to measure the width
by twice the height of the bedhead, allowing
extra for seams, hems and any fabric joins.
Cut two gusset pieces the width and height of
the headboard, allowing extra for seams. Then
cut eight 11 x 50cm fabric strips for ties. With
right sides facing, fold each strip in half, then
stitch long sides together. Turn right side out
and press seam to centre back. With right sides
facing, fold panel in half. Pin a gusset to left side
of panel, matching long sides. Referring to photo
(above) for guidance and, with raw edges even,
slip two pairs of ties into gusset seams. Stitch
gusset in place, catching ties. Repeat for right
side. Hem the cover, turn right side out and pull
over the headboard. Fasten ties.
Chest of charm
8. Groove up a plain chest of drawers
with gloss paint and patterned fabric. Remove
drawers and knobs from chest, then sand
with fine sandpaper. Wipe off dust, then paint
chest in a colour to suit your fabric. Make a
paper template of each drawer front and any
door panels you wish to cover, and use them
to cut your fabric to size. Coat fabric panel and
drawer front or panel with Mod Podge, then
press fabric onto it, smoothing it in place from
centre outwards. Repeat for other drawers and
panels. When dry, seal fabric with another coat
of Mod Podge. When dry, attach new knobs.

Crafter’s tip
■ If your chest has decorative moulding on the
drawers or doors, remove it with a chisel. Glue on
a piece of fabric slightly larger than the panel, then
reattach the moulding, hiding the raw fabric edges
